In the US city of Austin three parcel bombs exploded within a few days. It killed two people in the city in Texas. After an incident on March 2, a 39-year-old had succumbed to his injuries, on Monday died a 17-year-old in a second explosion. A third bomb injured a 75-year-old woman on Monday.
Austin police chief Brian Manley said the three attacks are interconnected. The investigators have but no pattern of the victims or a concrete suspicion.

African American and Hispanics

The motive is unclear, but one does not rule out a hate crime. The police are also investigating other possibilities. The first two homes involved were African-Americans, Manley said. The 75-year-old woman is Hispanic.

The packages were deposited outside the front doors. Initial indications indicated that the parcels had not been delivered by the post office or other vendors, Manley said. When the 17-year-old carried the parcel and opened it, it exploded. Another person was injured.

Technology fair not affected

The first two cases classify the police as a murder. The 39-year-old was seriously injured and later died in the hospital.
The police chief called the population to extreme caution. Visitors to the South by Southwest (SXSW) technology show in Austin would have no reason to worry. Austin is a big city, with explosions far away from the terrain.
